Teaching Today, Leading Tomorrow - West Elementary

Our 5th grade students recently completed a short educational program sponsored by Black Hills Energy focused on renewable and non-renewable resources and the importance of energy conservation. Throughout the program, students learned how different types of energy are produced, the difference between resources that can be replaced and those that cannot, and how everyday choices impact the environment.
Students also explored practical ways to conserve energy at school and at home, such as turning off lights when leaving a room, unplugging unused devices, and being mindful of heating and cooling. By connecting these habits to real-world outcomes, students gained an understanding of how conservation not only protects natural resources but also helps lower utility costs for families and schools.
This program provided a meaningful, hands-on learning experience that encouraged our 5th graders to become responsible energy users and thoughtful stewards of our planet.
