Glendo School Updates 9/2024:

  • The new 4-day school schedule is working out nicely and has allowed for more instructional time for core subjects. Elementary (K-5) now have two-hour reading / literacy blocks and two-hour math blocks. The extended day has allowed more time for social studies / civics and science which each now have a full hour dedicated to each. Previously, these classes had to alternated daily in order to fit them into our instructional time. The 4-day schedule has helped ensure middle school students have instructional time protected while allowing more time for classes such as Ag and Life Skills. Mr. Franke is doing an amazing job of teaching all middle grades subjects this year.

  • We are seeing some growth in enrollment. We now have seven children enrolled in the Glendo Pre-K Program. We have had new students enroll from the Wheatland and Douglas areas. Class sizes are still small allowing for a great teacher to student ratio of approximately eight students to each teacher. Individualized instruction is possible with such manageable student groups. Also, all Glendo staff members are pitching in to help with remediation and extension instruction during our reading and math blocks. Regular PLC meetings are occurring and individual student needs are targeted and met quickly.

  • Glendo middle school students are benefitting from an extra class offered by Mr. Teten. In addition to the fantastic job he does with his Ag classes, Mr. Teten is also now offering a Life Skills class to middle grades students. Students love this class and it has been an awesome addition to the middle grades curriculum. All middle grades students are actively participating in FFA and Mr. Teten’s Ag class is always a favorite of our middle grades students.

  • A focus on improving science instruction has been a priority for the 2024-2025 school year. Elementary students are now participating in science activities and experiments at the end of each day. Students in grades 4-8 recently made the journey to Teton Science School in Kelly, Wyoming. Students spent the week learning about plant and animal adaptations, the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and place-based science. Students participated in science activities each day from 7:30 A.M. until 8:30 P.M. each day. Students were required to maintain science journals in which they documented all activities and research. Students also learned how to prepare research projects using the scientific method, and students conducted field research to gather information for their research projects. Projects were presented on the final evening of our stay and the students did an amazing job. The Teton Science School was an amazing opportunity and learning experience for Glendo students.

  •  Glendo School was also able to get also able to get materials donated for a geodome greenhouse. Once the dirt work is completed, the greenhouse will be constructed. Students will benefit from the science lessons that will result from the planting, maintenance, and harvesting of produce from the greenhouse. Glendo School is also working with the Glendo Improvement Committee who received grants to resurface the existing tennis courts. The resurfacing project will also include lining for two pickle ball courts. Glendo students and community members will be able to enjoy the new court and pickle ball can be added to the P.E. activities available to Glendo students.
