Wheatland High School

The most important piece to the puzzle of education is building positive relationships between staff and students. These relationships are forged in the classroom as well as through activities throughout the year. Wheatland High School and Peak High School offer a variety of activities within the classroom as well as extracurricular activities. Over the past couple of weeks, students have been working on classroom projects including presenting on family traditions and culture, pouring concrete for the new Wood Shop dust collector, unpacking new equipment that have been purchased through grants, and a field trip to Cheyenne to learn about a pizza business and visit the State Capitol and Old West Museum. These opportunities for students and staff allow them to share in their learning. As students have experiences with these hands-on learning experiences, they become connected to their community and the people around them. Students learn concepts that are taught in the classroom, but then have an opportunity to view them firsthand and apply them to their own lives.

Along with classroom activities, students have the opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities with their peers. WHS offers a wide variety of athletics and activities that students are able to participate in. Some of these activities are school wide functions such as Homecoming Week. The tradition of Homecoming Week allows students and staff to participate in and cheer each other on in the spirit of competition. Our goal is that the excitement that homecoming brings spreads throughout the entire school year.

Peak High School

At Peak High School, students have the opportunity to participate in a student centered atmosphere. Students are working to recover credit, take on-line courses, and have experiences designed to help them prepare for life after high school. PHS is considered an alternative school by the state of Wyoming. Students graduate from PHS with a regular high school diploma that allows them to attend college, trade schools, certificate programs, or participate in apprenticeship programs.  As we work to support students in reaching their goals, it is the goal of the district to expand opportunities for our students. One way that PHS is expanding student opportunities is by expanding our Virtual Education program. Over the past few weeks, Mr. Sandlian, Superintendent Weigel, and Mrs. Suko (the District Registrar) have been working with the Wyoming Department of Education to expand this program so that students in certain situations can take their courses virtually. We know that students have various backgrounds and work commitments. Also, parents/guardians may have certain work obligations that prevent students from being in a brick and mortar school building all the time. The PHS Virtual Education program will allow for high school age students to continue their education virtually while still being able to graduate from Peak High School. This option is also a resource for the Homeschool families in our community. We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our students and our community!
