Mrs. Preuit’s 1st Grade class performed multiple shows for family and staff of their Halloween Readers Theater. Reader’s theater is a collaborative strategy that can help students develop a variety of skills beyond being fun and great entertainment. 

• Fluency: Students read parts of a script multiple times to build familiarity with the language and practice expression. 

• Confidence: Students practice reading with a purpose, which can help build their confidence. 

• Comprehension: Reader's theater can help improve students' comprehension. 

• Cognitive flexibility: Students must shift between their own perspective and the perspective of their character. 

• Oral reading skills: Reader's theater can help improve students' oral reading skills.
