West Elementary 3rd and 4th graders enjoyed a fun and educational day at the Platte County Ag Expo on Feb.4.
The Ag Expo was hosted by the Laramie Peak CattleWomen and featured 12 stations providing hands-on education to young people about local production agriculture. Ten of these stations were organized and presented by the Chugwater FFA, Glendo FFA, Laramie Peak FFA and Wheatland FFA. These high school and middle school students received a great learning experience by researching and teaching these important topics to younger students.
The event welcomed nearly 200 elementary school students from Platte County. FFA Members guided them to each station where they engaged in hands-on learning about: horses on the ranch, showing animals at fair, a John Deere tractor and planter, how livestock are traced through identification, seed germination, animal by-products, plant identification, welding, how a cheeseburger gets from farm to plate, roping cattle, cuts of beef, and shooting sports.
Thank you to Farm Credit Services of America, First State Bank, Platte Valley Bank, Bridle Bit Beef and Wyoming Bell for sponsoring the event. Each student left the Platte County Ag Expo with a Wyoming CattleWomen goodie bag filled with a Wyoming Ag in the Classroom Bookmark, an “I Heart Beef” temporary tattoo, Platte County Resource District information, beef jerky and other information.
